Reinstate Your Lapsed Wisconsin Insurance License

Missed your CE deadline? Don't panic. Here's exactly what to do.

Time Is Critical

You have 1 YEAR to reinstate without retaking prelicensing

After that, you'll have to start over with prelicensing education and the state exam.

The Good News

If your license was revoked within the past year, you can reinstate without:

You just need to complete your overdue CE credits and apply for reinstatement.

How to Reinstate Your License

3 Steps to Get Your License Back

1

Complete Your Overdue CE Credits

You need 24 credits (including at least 3 ethics). CEWisconsin's One-n-Done courses let you finish all 24 in a single course with one test. Many agents complete this in a day.

2

Wait for Credits to Post to the State

Standard processing: Credits submitted on the 5th, 10th, 15th, 20th, and daily from the 23rd. Need it faster? Add RUSH processing ($19.99) for 24-hour submission.

3

Apply for Reinstatement

Once your CE is posted, apply through NIPR or Sircon. Pay the reinstatement fee. Your license should be restored within a few business days.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I sell insurance while my license is lapsed?
No. Once your license is revoked, you cannot legally sell, solicit, or negotiate insurance in Wisconsin until you reinstate. Doing so could result in additional penalties and make reinstatement more difficult.
How quickly can I complete my CE?
Many agents complete all 24 credits in a single day using our One-n-Done courses. These bundle all your credits (including ethics) into one course with one test. Add RUSH processing ($19.99) and credits are submitted within 24 hours.
Do I need to complete CE for the period I missed AND the current period?
This depends on your specific situation. Contact the Wisconsin OCI or check your NIPR transcript to see exactly what CE you need. In most cases, you need to complete the CE that was due when your license lapsed.
What if I have specialty requirements (LTC, Annuity)?
If you sell LTC or annuities, you may also need to complete those specialty training requirements. Our LTC and Annuity Best Interest courses are available and count toward your 24 credits. LTC info | Annuity info
How much does reinstatement cost?
You'll pay for CE credits ($69.99 for 24 credits at CEWisconsin) plus any late fees and reinstatement fees to the state. State fees vary; check with NIPR or Sircon when you apply.
What if it's been more than a year?
Unfortunately, if more than 1 year has passed since your license was revoked, you'll need to complete prelicensing education and pass the state exam again—just like getting licensed for the first time. See prelicensing options
